Eventually, they were successful, and after months of organising, the masseuses managed to successfully unionise. From there, the management had no choice but to concede to the masseuses’ demands for better pay, safer working conditions and the freedom to work when and how they liked.

The months that followed were filled with excitement and joy, as the masseuses celebrated their newfound independence and freedom from oppression. Agnes, in particular, was exceptionally proud of what they had achieved and felt liberated like never before. The parlour itself was transformed, too, its dark and oppressive atmosphere giving way to one of relaxation, joy and liberation.

Agnes looked forward to coming to work each day, feeling proud of the work she and her colleagues had achieved. The manager was still present, but his oppressive manner had softened and he seemed to understand that the masseuses’ rights were significant.
